The Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics was split off from the Faculty of Law and Political Science in 1992, making it the newest faculty at the University of Zurich.
Today, aorund 100 professors along with numerous instructors are training over 3900 students in a major, about 1000 in a minor, and about 400 in a Doctoral program at our Faculty.
Research and teaching in the disciplines of business and economics have long played a role at the University of Zurich. In 1903, the first chair for business administration in the German-speaking area was created.
In 1962, Hans P. Künzi, Professor of Operations Research at that time, brought the University's first computer online and opened the computing center, laying the cornerstone for informatics at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics – as well as its legacy organizations – has always strived to offer modern degree programs. To that end, the Bologna Reform was already implemented in 2004, bringing with it the introduction of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. In fall 2008, structured Doctoral programs were added, which in addition to a dissertation, require graduates to complete research-oriented courses on a par with the highest international standards.
Since 2011 the Faculty has consisted of only four departments. This reorganization consolidated the previous departments of business administration and economics each in a single department. In 2016, a major and minor program structure was introduced in place of the previous mono-subjects.
