In order to underpin its position among the world’s leading research institutions, the University of Zurich has established its University Research Priority Programs (URPP). The URPP create and promote academic networks in selected areas of research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in areas of research that benefit society.
The University Research Priority Program «Equality of Opportunity» studies economic and social changes that lead to inequality in society, the consequences of such inequalities, and public policies that foster greater equality of opportunity.
The URPP Financial Market Regulation started on 1 January 2013. The global financial crisis has caused a political debate about stricter regulation of financial markets which is economically significant for Switzerland and particularly for Zurich as a financial center. The URPP aims to examine existing regulatory concepts and approaches in the light of their history and international rulebooks. It further intends to analyze national as well as international regulatory needs and proposals.
The focus of the University Research Priority Program (URPP) on Social Networks is to investigate social networks. This includes an examination of the impact that social networks have on society, private enterprises and individuals. At the URPP Social Networks, researchers look beyond a particular or individual behavior and focus on complex, networked systems to gain a better understanding of the relationships between social structures and economic behavior.
