Neuroeconomics: For the Brain is Dark and Full of Errors

We are surrounded by errors. From the smallest typo to life-changing mistakes leading to a lifetime of regret, errors pervade decision making in economics and beyond. What is their origin, and how is it related to brain processes?

This talk aims to illustrate that there are two major, qualitatively different sources of errors in human decision making. Neuroeconomics shows that both are deeply rooted in how the human brain operates, but understanding how they differ can help improve both modeling and forecasting human decisions.

Carlos Alós-Ferrer graduated in Mathematics and received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Alicante (Spain) in 1998. He became increasingly interested in «Psychoeconomics», defined as the confluence of psychology, economics, and neuroscience to study human decision making. In 2018, he joined the University of Zurich as Professor of Decision and Neuroeconomic Theory (endowed by the Nomis foundation). He is currently the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Economic Psychology.

The inaugural lecture is public and will take place in the Aula of the University of Zurich (KOL G-201, Raemistrasse 71, 8006 Zurich) on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 18:15 pm. No reservation is needed.
