Prof. Marc Chesney and Prof. Lorenz Hilty – two highly renowned professors from our Faculty – retired by the end of July. They are each distinguished in their respective fields and known for their dedicated engagement. In keeping with UZH tradition, they both delivered a farewell lecture.
Marc Chesney has had a distinguished career and has made numerous research contributions in particularly in the field of mathematical finance. He is an esteemed expert in the finance sector, served as Professor of Mathematical Finance at the UZH Department of Finance from 2003 to 2024 and held the position of Head of the Department of Finance from 2015 to 2021. During those years he established the UZH Center of Competence for Sustainable Finance with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary research in this domain. Prior to his tenure at UZH, he was a Professor at the Department of Finance and Economics at HEC in Paris from 1994 to 2003 and Deputy Dean from 1993 to 2000.

Lorenz Hilty has been a strong advocate for sustainability and led the sustainability team at UZH. He has made significant contributions to the interdisciplinary research area between digitalization and sustainability. He joined the UZH Department of Informatics as Professor of Informatics and Sustainability in 2010. He led the Informatics and Sustainability Research Group (ISR) since 2010, advancing research at the intersection of technology and environmental stewardship. Since 2014, he has served as the Sustainability Delegate for UZH, championing sustainable practices within the university. Additionally, he has been the Director of the Zurich Knowledge Center for Sustainable Development (ZKSD) since 2022, guiding efforts to foster sustainable development through interdisciplinary knowledge.
